Minnesota Public Records Search

By Ben Kingsley

The residents of Minnesota are allowed to access the Minnesota public records. These records consist of several types of documents such as the birth certificates, death certificate, marriage license and divorce documents along with the criminal history of an individual. These documents were opened to the public to allow the residents to easily request for such files when necessary.

The public records of Minnesota are requested by the residents for several reasons. Birth, death, marriage and divorce licenses are also used in genealogy research. However, each of the documents has a purpose unique only to itself. For example, birth records are used to prove one's identity when dealing with some government transactions. Marriage and divorce and death certificates are used with insurance related matters. The criminal records of the state are primarily used when conducting a background check.

The information that can be found on each of the document is specific to the type of document it is. Birth documents would not show details about the death of an individual but rather details about when and where an individual was born. Marriage certificates would contain details about the marriage of a couple while a divorce certificate would show details about the separation of a couple. Criminal records would then focus on the crimes and offenses and individual has committed. Although, each type of document has unique information on it, all of the public documents of Minnesota would contain the personal details of the involved individual.

In order to get a copy of any of the public documents of Minnesota, one should know that there are guidelines that should be followed. Birth and death, marriage and separation papers have to be requested at the office of the Vital Statistics at the Department of Health. The state office only releases documents from 1900. The local county clerk office can also help in getting the needed document. Fees has to be paid in order to obtain a copy of the document, however, this would not be the same for all types of documents. To make the search easier, one has to provide the basic details of the document being requested.

The Public Safety Department of Minnesota is where the criminal records of the state are archived. The retrieval would also cost a certain fee but that would depend on the type of document requested as well as the method used to obtain it. A fingerprint scan can be done but that would cost a little higher than the usual search. The requesting individual should also provide the basic details of the requested file along with their personal information. Once all of the requirements and guidelines are followed, the retrieval process can be easier.

To avoid the hassle that one needs to go through when requesting for government public records in the state of Minnesota, one can request it through the Internet. This has eliminated the need to go to any office since the request can be done even at the comforts of one's home. Aside from that, the requested information can be obtained in just seconds instead of waiting for hours, days or worse weeks. This is the reason why most of the residents of Minnesota would request the public documents online.
